• In this 14th edition of the tournament, which supports the protection of the natural environment, over 900 padel tennis balls, 1,200 plastic water bottles and 300 tennis ball cans were recycled in order to give them a second life.

Jon Sanz and Iñigo Zaratiegui (in the men’s category) and Marta Sexmilo and Maite Gabarrús (in the women’s) are this year’s doubles champions in the Señorío de Sarría Rosé ECO Trophy, as part of this 14th edition of the ‘Top Circuit Navarra Padel Tennis’. Sponsored by Bodega de Sarría, which is part of the Bornos Bodegas y Viñedos group, this trophy has become the most sustainable one on the circuit. It has become one of the most anticipated events of the season with over 700 competitors taking part.
In the highest category for men, the winners were Jon Sanz and Iñigo Zaratiegui, who defeated Ignacio Santos and Fabián Ordoñez in the final by 2 sets to love: 6/2, 6/1.
In the women’s final, Marta Sexmilo and Maite Gabarrús overcame the doubles pair Leyre Baldellou and Blanca Arriola in 3 sets by 7/6, 3/6, 6/3.
#SarríaRoséForChange for a good cause
This trophy included a new initiative under the hashtag #SarríaRoséForChange, supporting the protection of the natural environment. The event achieved its aim of making this a sustainable and environmentally-responsible edition, in which efforts were made to recover and manage the waste items of the tournament in order to recycle them for a second life. Throughout the 20 days of the competition over 900 padel tennis balls, 1,200 plastic water bottles and 300 tennis ball cans were recycled.

Goal achieved
Firmly committed to the protection of the environment, Señorío de Sarría has succeeded in recycling the totality of the Trophy’s recyclable waste. To achieve this, throughout the tournament, recycling containers were installed in the Navarra Padel Master Club facilities, in order to encourage all the participants and players to become more environmentally responsible. “Our commitment to this initiative was total, and we counted on the support of the players and public to make this tournament the most sustainable of its kind,” said Fernando Zaratiegui, the General Manager of the Bornos group.
“We are very proud that sportspeople of this high level have joined the campaign and shown how sport and recycling share the same attributes of commitment, respect and consistency of action. Together we will succeed in protecting our environment and help make the Señorío de Sarría Eco Trophy a competition that holds these values dearly,” concluded Zaratiegui.
Supporting sustainable sport
In this 14th edition, Señorío de Sarría and the Navarra Padel Tennis Federation have joined forces to make it better known that recycling brings great benefits to society and the environment. Throughout this tournament’s 14-year existence, 13,500 padel tennis balls and over 4,200 tennis ball cans have been used and over 16,800 bottles of water have been consumed. Such numbers are mind-boggling; especially bearing in mind the fact that one padel tennis ball requires 2,500 years to biodegrade.
Awarding of prizes
Once the tournament had been completed, a winners’ ceremony was held and the prizes awarded, which consisted of a magnum of Señorío de Sarría Reserva and selected lots of wines. A cocktail was then held for the players and the spectators, who were able to enjoy the winery’s latest release: Señorío de Sarría Rosé. This event has already become the traditional meeting point for enthusiasts of the sport.
