A premium rosé wine from the Appellation of Origin Navarra.
Puente La Reina, 17 May 2022. Señorío de Sarría Viñedo Cinco 2021, the top-of-the-range rosé from Bodega de Sarría, part of the BORNOS Bodegas & Viñedos wine group, keeps standing out in national and international competitions. This premium Rosé from the D.O. Navarra has just received a Gold Medal in the international competition ‘Grenaches du Monde’, which was held this year in the Navarrese town of Olite. From 4 to 6 May, the Appellation of Origin of Navarra became the venue for this monographic competition for wines elaborated from the region’s emblematic Garnacha grape variety.
“Today is a special day for all of us at Bodega de Sarría. Our winery is synonymous with Garnacha and this variety has been the origin of what we are. The Garnacha grape variety shows us where we come from and where we are going to. Receiving a Gold Medal at this important international competition, where wines made with one of our most important grapes are awarded, is for us much more than a source of pride”, said Milagros Rodríguez, winemaker at Bodega de Sarría.
Such is the high quality of Viñedo Cinco that this year it has also been chosen as the best Rosé of Navarra at the “Premios Mejores Vinos D.O. Navarra 2022” (Best D.O. Navarra wines), a competition organised by the Consejo Regulador Denominación de Origen Navarra and recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. The recognition achieved will allow this wine to represent the Appellation of Origin in all its activities, becoming an ambassador of the D.O. Navarra Rosé category.
Viñedo Cinco is a wine made using the traditional saignée method from old-vine Garnacha grapes, the Navarrese grape variety par excellence, which Bodega de Sarría uses to make its rosé wines, since it provides very fresh, aromatic and ripe fruit, accompanied by a silkiness and delicacy on the palate that cannot be achieved with any other grape variety.
Grenaches du Monde
The programme of activities started with the technical conference for professionals ‘Getting to know Garnacha’, held at the Estación de Viticultura y Enología de Navarra (Evena) in Olite. The finishing touch to the programme was provided by “Garnoche”, the Great Night of Navarran Garnacha which was held on Friday in the Sala de Armas of the Pamplona Citadel, with the collaboration of the City Council of Pamplona.
The Grenaches du Monde international competition was created in 2013 by the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Roussillon (CIVR) in Perpignan. In 2016, it travelled abroad for the first time, taking place in Campo de Borja (Aragón). One year later it was held in Sardinia (Italy) and then in Terra Alta (Catalonia) in 2018.
It returned to Perpignan in 2019 and, the following year, was organised in Montpellier, in partnership with the Wines of Pays d’Oc. In 2021, the pandemic forced the event to be divided into four successive tastings: Cebreros in Spain, Perpignan and Chateauneuf-du-Pape in France and Ascoli Piceno in Italy.
A competition in which the world’s best Garnacha wines are the main protagonists.
