This prestigious international wine challenge awarded Gold to Guelbenzu Vierlas 2017, Señorío de Sarría Crianza 2017 and Martínez Corta Crianza 2017.
The wines produced by the different wineries belonging to the BORNOS Bodegas & Viñedos group continue their run of success at the leading international wine challenges. As many as four wines won top awards on the occasion of the 28th Grand International Wine Awards MUNDUS VINI, which is held in Germany and regarded as one of the leading events in the wine world calendar.
MUNDUS VINI is held twice a year and is one of the most important wine challenges in the world, presenting every year over 11,000 wines, which are rated by a professional judging panel made up of œnologists, producers, distributors, sommeliers and wine critics from all over the world.
The panel awarded top prizes to four wines belonging to the Bornos group. A Gold Medal was won by Guelbenzu Vierlas 2017, a blend of Merlot and Syrah sourced from the winery’s own 46 hectares of vines in La Lombana. Aged six months in French and American oak barrels, the wine displays a deep black-cherry colour. It is powerful and expressive on the nose against a spicy, floral backdrop. The palate reveals intense flavour with black fruit, balsamic and menthol notes coming through.
Another wine from Bodega de Sarría (D.O. Navarra) was awarded a Gold Medal. This was Señorío de Sarría Crianza 2017, a delicious wine displaying a black-cherry colour with a ruby rim. Hints of black fruits and touches of vanilla come through on the nose together with toasty and roasted coffee bean notes. On the palate, the wine is flavoursome and elegant with very well integrated oak.
The third wine to win a Gold Medal was Martínez Corta Crianza 2017, a wine from the Rioja appellation. This was aged twelve months in American and French oak. It shows a black-cherry colour with a garnet rim. On the nose, intense aromas of red berry and black fruits come to the fore, while on the palate, the wine is fresh and lively with good fruit character, power and structure.
Very worthy of its Silver Medal was one of the most emblematic wines of Bodegas Lleiroso (D.O. Ribera del Duero): Lleiroso Reserva 2015. The wine displays a brilliant, dense, deep ruby colour. Aromatically complex on the nose, it is full, silky and elegant on the palate.
Four medals won then that add to the long list of awards achieved over the last years and demonstrate the high quality of the range of wines produced in the different wineries that make up the BORNOS Bodegas & Viñedos group.
“We’re very pleased with these awards, since they are great recognition of the work carried out at the group’s different wineries,” said Fernando Zaratiegui, the Managing Director of BORNOS Bodegas & Viñedos.
