This Gold Medal implies being regarded as one of the Best Rosés of the Grenache grape variety in the world
Puente la Reina, June 30th Señorío de Sarría Viñedo Cinco 2022, the premium Rosé wine of Bodega de Sarría, part of Grupo vitivinícola BORNOS Bodegas & Viñedos, keeps gaining recognition at domestic and international competitions. This Rosé with Appellation of Origin D.O. Navarra has just been acknowledged with the highest award, a “Double Gold Medal” at the prestigious international competition Grenaches du Monde, hold for the first time in New York, thanks to its interesting qualities and the Navarrese sense of place it expresses.
“Today is a special day for all of us at Bodega de Sarría. Our winery is synonymous with Garnacha. This grape variety has been the origin of what we are. Garnacha shows us where we come from and where we head to. To receive a “Double Gold Medal” at this important competition, where wines made from our star grape variety are awarded, is much more than a source of pride to us”, said Milagros Rodríguez, winemaker at Bodega de Sarría.
Moreover, this recognition is especially important considering that out of the 800 wines tasted, only 11 have won a Double Gold Medal and only two of them are rosés.
The quality of Viñedo Cinco has been recognized over the years with the obtention of multitude of medals and awards. Last year, for instance, it was chosen as the best Navarrese Rosé of at “Premios Mejores Vinos D.O. Navarra”, a competition organised by the Consejo Regulador of the Appellation of Origin D.O. Navarra and authorized by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. This distinction allowed the wine to represent the Appellation of Origin on all its activities, becoming the benchmark of the Rosé category of D.O. Navarra.
Grenaches du Monde
The eleventh edition of the international Grenaches du Monde competition, held for the first-time outside Europe -specifically in New York City- has resulted in a total of 286 medals, of which 141 went to Spanish wineries.
Eighty members of a jury represented on this occasion only by distributors, sommeliers, importers, journalists and influential personalities from the United States, faced a strict blind tasting of more than 800 samples of Grenache wines, both single varietals and blends, coming from the host country as well as from France, Spain and Italy.
The competition was created in 2013 by the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Roussillon (CIVR) in Perpignan. In 2016 it travelled abroad for the first time, to take place in Campo de Borja (Aragón). In subsequent years it has changed its venue, being held last year in Navarra (Spain) and this year in New York (USA). A competition in which the best Grenache wines in the world are the stars.
