THE NAVARRA WINE APPELLATION
Diversity and unique character
One of the defining characteristics of the Navarra wine appellation is its great diversity. A wide range of landscapes and climates stretches across its 100 kilometres from the north of the appellation near Pamplona to the south, along the Ebro riverbank area.
Thanks to the confluence of Atlantic, Continental and Mediterranean climatic influences, Navarra enjoys exceptional weather conditions that are virtually unique in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula. The proximity of the Cantabrian mountains, the influence of the nearby Pyrenees and the mildness brought by the Ebro valley combine to create a climate which shapes the Navarra landscape in all its variety. The appellation covers some 17,000 hectares and features a whole range of ecosystems and vine-growing locations, such as rolling hills, slopes, riverbank areas, plateaus and plains, which make up five distinct sub-zones of wine production: Baja Montaña, Valdizarbe, Tierra Estella, Ribera Alta and Ribera Baja.
